Oreos and milk next to an alarm clock

Reader question: What’s a good bedtime snack if you need to take medicines at bedtime that require food?

January 15, 2018 by Jenny Askew

Q: What’s a good bedtime snack if you need to take medicines at bedtime that require food?

A: A lot of people are afraid to eat too late, but if you are physically hungry, or in a case such as this, it’s okay to eat at night. You just want to be sure that you are eating something healthy, and something that you know you will be able to digest well. Bedtime snacks are not a good time to experiment with new foods. Some healthy snack ideas for you would be:

  • Whole grain crackers with cheese

  • Whole grain toast with nut butter (peanut butter, almond butter, etc.)

  • An apple or banana with nut butter

  • Oatmeal

  • Cottage cheese with fruit

  • Whole grain cereal with milk
